Natural Seed Protection
Natural II
is a seed coating organically certified by Monterrey County Certified Organic, and is in full compliance with all NOP rules. This seed coating promotes quicker and more uniform emergence, and taller plants.

When ordering seed, be sure to request the seed be coated with Natural II.

For 2006 use, Blue River Organic Seed has the right to make available, field crop seed coated with the biofungicide Natural II for organic farmers. We have evaluated Natural II in a controlled lab environment, and in strip trials on organic farms in the spring of 2005. Seed corn coated with Natural II potentially offers several significant advantages to organic farmers.

First, when spring conditions turn cold and wet, Natural II offers excellent seed protection. When conditions turn cold,
a seed's metabolism slows. These conditions provide opportunities for pathogens to use the seed's sugars and carbohydrates. When conditions do warm, the seed is unable to grow normally. Seeds coated with Natural II however, are protected against attack by pathogens.

Second, Natural II helps seeds grow faster and in a more uniform manner. Cultivation can begin sooner, and because plants are more uniform in size, cultivation speeds don’t have to be slowed.

Third, each area has an optimal time for planting. Planting later than this time, may mean lower yields. Using Natural II allows the organic farmer to plant during the optimal time, and have protection for the seed in the event of cool, wet conditions.
